The toxicity of cosmetics on the market

 cosmetics toxicity

Would you spread hundreds of products on your body daily without knowing what they are made of? Well, that’s what many people do!

Is this your case?

It seems that the average North American woman puts on her body nearly 500 different products per day. PER DAY !

But how is this possible?

Grab a single non-organic or eco-friendly cosmetic product from a big box store and read the ingredients. We took a photo of the ingredients in a shampoo.

So we can easily imagine the long list of ingredients if we add conditioner, other styling products, cosmetic facial treatments, soaps, makeup... it goes quickly, very quickly!

If we take an ingredient separately, a single use of a product containing this toxic substance does not in itself pose a health risk.

The problem could be long-term low-dose exposure to toxic substances, alone or in combination. Certain toxic substances can accumulate in the body over the years. This is called bioaccumulation.

This is all the more relevant because the safety of the majority of the ingredients that make up these products has not yet been demonstrated and their impacts on health are unknown.

Furthermore, at the time of writing, it appears that scientific research cannot determine whether there are interactions that increase the toxicity of the ingredients between them.

All this deserves your attention, doesn't it?

There is a long list of products that should catch your attention.
Here is a short, non-exhaustive summary:

But what do we do?

The first thing to do is to feed yourself with relevant information, I believe that is what you have just done.

The second is to become aware of our habits: what cosmetics do you consume? What is essential for you?

The third is, before you finish the products you already have, look for replacement products. Well, here it is not a question of throwing everything away, that would not be good for the environment and what is not good for the environment is not good for us!

The basic rules: we therefore look for products that do not contain the ingredients above and with a smaller list of ingredients.

You have the choice to learn to do what you need. There are a variety of recipes that you can make to have homemade cosmetics.

Or maybe you don't have the desire or the time to do trial and error to find what suits you. In this case, there are several great companies that specialize in natural and effective cosmetics. We present some of them to you in our Beauty and hygiene section.

Come on, let's bring out our critical thinking about what we consume and what we apply to our body!

Ecologically yours,
