Instructions
Chill the wax in the refrigerator to make cutting or grating easier.
It is not necessary to turn the fabric inside out as the wax will naturally melt through the fabric. Wax liquefies at 80°C (176°F) and can cause burns. Handle with care using oven mitts or tongs.
Store unused portion of wax in its packaging in a cool, dry place.
To make reusable fabrics
Iron Method
- Place a piece of parchment paper slightly larger than your cotton fabric on your work surface.
- Place the fabric on the parchment paper.
- Cut a cube of wax into small pieces and spread them evenly over the fabric. Leave some space around the edges to prevent the wax from spilling over.
- Preheat the iron to medium heat.
- Cover the fabric with another sheet of parchment paper.
- Slowly press the iron onto the parchment paper while sliding it. The wax will gradually melt into the fabric and distribute evenly.
- Once the wax is melted, slowly lift the parchment paper.
- Hang the fabric to dry completely.
Conventional oven method
- Preheat the oven to 80°C (176°F).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Refreshing an existing wax sheet
- Place the waxed cotton cloth in the center of the plate.
- Place the plate in the oven and heat for 5 minutes to soften the existing wax.
- Remove the baking tray from the oven. If necessary, add a little freshly cut wax into small pieces to the fabric to fill in the damaged areas, leaving space along the edges.
- Spread the melted wax evenly using a brush.
Create a new wax sheet
- Place a piece of cotton cloth in the center of the plate.
- Evenly distribute pieces of wax over the top of the fabric, taking care to leave space along the edges to avoid bleed-through.
- Place the plate in the oven and let the wax melt completely.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and, using a brush, spread the melted wax to cover the entire surface of the fabric.
- Allow to cool completely before handling.
